Listen, I completely and 100% understand if you want to listen to the Weeknd’s new album Starboy on repeat. You definitely wouldn’t be alone. The album broke the record for the amount of streams on Spotify in one day and there’s no way all of those can’t be coming from one or two people. Starboy is really, really good and those two tracks with Daft Punk are dope as hell. If you’re down for some smooth R&B, Starboy is everything you could want in life.
However, if maybe, just maybe you want to listen to something else, something kind of similar and something that frankly, is pretty much just as good, I’d like to offer up Yes Lawd! the new album by NxWorries, Anderson .Paak and Knowledge.
It might lack the oomph and power and eye-catching guest appearances by people like Daft Punk, Kendrick Lamar and Lana Del Ray, but still, Yes Lawd! is silk for your ear holes baby. Knowledge’s production, fusing captivating beats with gospel tendencies, brings to mind the genius of Madlib, and teamed up with a voice as distinct as .Paak’s is like a bowl of Cinnamon Life and Honey Nut Cheerios – perfection.
So yes, Starboy will grab the headlines and Starboy will be talked about on podcasts and that is all entirely justified. I’m just saying that if you need a break from the album or are looking to switch it up, look to Yes Lawd!.
