Today In Great Finds On the Internet…

The Internet is a dark and scary place 92% of the time. It’s kind of like that sketchy grocery store in the not-so-great part of town – full of off-brand cereals, dim lighting and brands of soda you didn’t think existed. However, every so often, a golden nugget of enjoyment can be mined amidst the sludge and decay. It’s true. We live in weird times. Anything truly is possible.

Now today in glorious Internet finds, we have “2007 Forever,” created by the Magic iPod.

Oh, but what is “2007 Forever” and the Magic iPod? Well it’s a site created by fella named Race Archibold. Archibold dipped his toes in the mash-up pool in 2016 with Death Cab for Yeezy, a mash-up mix of Death Cab for Cutie and an up and coming rapper named Kanye West. Instead of focusing on only one project to follow that one up, Archbold wanted to create something for the people.

“I built this site in an attempt to ‘use my mashup powers for good,” he says to Esquire. “I’ve always wanted to build something like this, and realized that if I could make a site that a lot of people enjoyed, there would be an opportunity to do some good by asking for donations instead of running ads.”

Thus we have the Magic iPod and the “2007 Forever” project. The site allows you, yes YOU, to play the role of mash-up DJ. On the one hand are a collection of rap songs, including, but not limited too: “Move Bitch” by Ludacris, “In Da Club,” by 50 Cent, “99 Problems” by Jay Z and “Country Grammar” by Nelly. And on the other hand are a collection of rock songs. What rocks songs? Just some tasty nuggets from the early 2000’s, such as “Island in the Sun” by Weezer, “Take Me Out” by Franz Ferdinand, “I Miss You” by Blink 182 and “Seven Nation Army” by the White Stripes. You select a song from the rap side and options light up on the rock song. And poof, mash-up time!

The “2007 Forever” is free to use. If you are so inclined, Archibald asks that you donate to the ACLU.

You can keep an eye out for my mash-up album, Bangers & Mash-Ups, coming soon. It’s going to be huge.
