The D.I.Y. Summer Music Festival Game

summer-music-ftrAll this talk of summer music festivals had me thinking. No, not which one do I want to go to. I won’t be attending any of them. Those days are behind me.

But, what if you could look at the lineups of Governor’s Ball, Bonnaroo and Coachella and create your own lineup, your own festival? How many days would it be? How many bands would play? What would it be called? Where is this festival going down?

I asked myself these questions and this is what I came up with.

Presentation1

Co-headlined by the Black Keys and Kendrick Lamar, Getaway Day would take place on one lovely summer day in good ol’ Philadelphia because Philly is a fantastic American city. I thought about doing it over two days, but I dig the one day thing. Less filler, more killer is what I always say. And I always say it. It’s why I don’t put a lot of milk in my cereal. YOLO, son.

But anyway, here’s how the day would look- one day, two stages, closing set by the Black Keys. No disrespect to Kendrick, but the Keys are the closers. Why? Because it’s my effin’ music festival!

Before we get to Kendrick and the Keys (which is a dope band name by the way,) the line up would go something like this…

Bahamas
Moon Taxi
Houndmouth
Fitz & the Tantrums
Vance Joy
J Roddy Walston & the Business
Tame Impala
Benjamin Booker
St. Paul & the Broken Bones
Childish Gambino
War on Drugs
Bleachers
Alabama Shakes
Atmosphere
St. Vincent
Ryan Adams
Spoon
Gary Clark Jr.
My Morning Jacket
Kendrick Lamar
the Black Keys

My man Gramatik would be the house DJ for Getaway Day, providing music in between sets because I don’t hate many things in life. But one thing I definitely hate is dead time. So there will be no dead time at Getaway Day.

Why call this shindig Getaway Day?

Because it’s a great phrase and it’s a great thing to do- to getaway.

Now go ahead, make your own festival. Then starting saving your pennies. This shit won’t be cheap.

You can find lineups for the big three musical festivals HERE.
