On Thursday night’s episode of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the classroom instruments were dusted off, as the Roots and Fallon backed Adele, who sang her new song “Hello.” As with past classroom instruments performances on the show, it’s adorable. And pretty awesome. I feel like the best one is still the Christmas one with Mariah Carey, although this one is a close second. Bonus points for Adele, who even managed to include a toy phone at the end.
Besides the music, the best part is usually the Roots and the way each member handles the situation. Because remember, the Roots aren’t your average late-night band. The Roots are cool. They handle things a certain way.
For instance, bassist Mark Kelley, stone-faced the entire performance.
In the beginning, Black Thought was seemingly just waiting for that blunt to kick in.
Fast forward a minute or so…
There it is!
Tuba player Tuba Gooding Jr played that banana shaker with a wonderfully blissful “happy to be here” look. Admit it. You would be too.
Same goes for Frankie “Never Lose That Eye Contact” Knuckles. No really, never lose eye contact.
And finally…
…the look of a lottery winner.
